Carl’s diverse range of life and career experiences have greatly contributed to and enriched his practice. His career has focused on enabling diverse and inclusive healthy communities, especially supporting people with chronic health conditions and disabilities, and those who feel misunderstood or invisible. Carl has several years of experience in advocacy roles, offering public education programs on topics like sight loss, type 1 diabetes, healthy relationships, mental health and wellness; and supporting multicultural communities, including ethnic, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, and people who are street-involved and unhoused. These experiences, combined with his current role where he offers counselling for children, have facilitated Carl’s understanding that life is complicated and can be overwhelming, irrespective of one’s stage of life or personal circumstance.
Carl consistently demonstrates empathy, understanding, and unconditional positive regard to each of his clients, regardless of their background or reasons for seeking therapy, and he takes special care to tailor his approach to each of their unique needs, circumstances, and goals. He emphasizes honesty, encouragement, and collaboration to support clients on their journey towards good health and personal fulfillment. By employing an integrative approach rooted in Adlerian psychology’s emphasis on holistic understanding to deliver comprehensive and effective therapy, Carl helps clients feel seen, gain insights into themselves and the world around them, and to apply newfound self-awareness, knowledge, and improved coping strategies in real life. Carl’s Adlerian grounded practice often includes a mix of cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioural, structural, and feminist theories and interventions; person-centered and action-oriented methodologies, such as motivational interviewing; and mindfulness practices. His coursework at Adler University includes counselling theories and skills, ethics and legal issues in counselling, diagnosing, treatment planning and interventions, human sexuality, assessment and appraisal, crisis intervention and trauma, human growth and development, psychopharmacology, couples and family counselling, multicultural counselling, group counselling, career counselling, addictions counselling, and more.
